Veterans Celebrate Spirit of ’45
In Nevada and other states around the nation, an organization known as Keep the Spirit of ’45 Alive recently held celebrations to honor the 65th anniversary of the end of WWII. In Las Vegas, Mayor Oscar Goodman presented a proclamation to veteran Joe Odya, who heads the Veterans Help Veterans organization. In Boulder City, several dozen veterans and guests attended a similar ceremony to honor the anniversary as well as honor the many veterans who reside at the Veterans Home in that city. The state-run home is under the direction of Gary Bermeosolo. Also present at the event were Nevada elected officials and volunteer singers the VA Vocal Ambassadors. The group consists of Erika Damrose, Editha Aldan, Karen Hursh and Lorena Meier. Carolyn Whaley of the Women Veterans of Nevada ended the ceremony with her bugle by playing “Taps”
