Lon Kruger has cornered the market on high profile transfers. His 9-1 team, ranked No. 22, is built around transfers Tre'von Willis (Memphis), Quintrell Thomas (Kansas), Chace Stanback (UCLA) and Derrick Jasper (Kentucky). UNLV also has Mike Moser, another UCLA transfer sitting out this year.
Yet another UCLA transfer, freshman Matt Carlino, will be at the Rebels game tonight against UC-Santa Barbara. Carlino, a high touted point guard, lasted just seven games with Ben Howland and has three and a half years of elibigilty left. He considered UNLV coming out of high school but canceled his visit last year right after he checked out UCLA. He was in Provo over the weekend to watch BYU and Arizona. The Cougars are wide open at point guard. Carlino has also scheduled a visit to Butler. The BYU also says Carlino is also visiting future Cougar rival St. Mary's.
Greene also broke the news today that UNLV is still hitting the high school trail hard. The Rebels landed what could be the best high school recruit they've ever gotten under Kruger. Nigel Williams-Goss, a sophomore guard at Findlay Prep, committed to UNLV.
According to Scout, he had offers from Arizona, Oregon State and Washington. He also had interest from West Virginia, UConn and Oregon. The 6-foot-2 Williams-Goss is an Oregon native. He's an impressive kid.
Check out the interview with a then 14-year-old Williams-Goss. Carlino's highlight reel doesn't look too bad either.
